Eating in England

So we learned you don't tip bartenders in England. You ask if you can buy them a drink. All food and drinks are ordered at the bar. A waitress will not take your order. The food has drastically improved. The fish 'n chips was my favorite meal. The fish is in one huge piece not little fish sticks, it's often served with fries (chips) and mashed peas, which are surprisingly very yummy. They serve it with malt vinegar for the fish and either mayo or brown sauce for the fries. The brown sauce is a combination of worcheshire sauce, molasses and some other stuff. The beer is still served cold, we thought it would be warm. The local pubs away from the attractions are the best. You can tell they love to have a good time drinking beer and watching soccer on tv because the tables are sticky and some of the booths are broken but people still sit on them. Obviously don't eat near the main attractions, it's very expensive. Pubs are your best bet for saving money if you're going to eat out. Besides the local food, we had some excellent Thai and Indian food as well. Actually, the London for dummies book gave us a lot of good places to eat.
