Day 3 Westminster Abbey

Westminster was the only site that our London Pass didn't cover. I think we paid around $30 to get in but it was totally worth it. At first you get overwhelmed because the place is so huge. I recommend getting the interactive guide to help you through. The first thing to notice is that directly across the street is Parliment and Big Ben. You can also hop on the London Eye (a big ferris wheel) to see it all from above. Every monarch except two have been either crowned, married or had their funeral here. You can see the actual chair that they have been crowned on. It's still in use today. It looks like a very old wooden chair but they say it was quite spectacular in it's day. So many people are buried here. They have poet's corner, which is an area where a bunch of poets were buried. Most people have plaques on the floor where they are buried, but the people with more money have huge monuments in their place. Some of the people buried here are Oliver Cromwell, who actually was removed, Mary Queen of Scots, Queens Mary and Elizabeth I are buried in the same vault. King Henry VIIIs only son is buried here next to the King's mother and father who was King Henry VII. There is a ton more to see here, the walking tour helped us out a lot. Even though this place was huge, it won't take a whole day. We did this and the Tower in the same day. I would save the tower for last as it's the most impressive and you'll want to spend more time there. My biggest disappointment was that most of these places are so huge but the public is only allowed to see so little of it. I understand why, I just wish I could have seen more.
